Textbook Illustration: MutaMouse Assay
Figure illustrating how MutaMouse transgenic mice are used to determine the frequency of genetic mutations after exposure to a chemical.
Overview:
Genotoxicity and DNA Repair: A Practical Approach is a textbook describing methods in pharmacology and toxicology research. This illustration was produced for a chapter describing the Muta™Mouse transgenic mouse and its application for measuring a chemical’s mutagenicity—that is, the likelihood of causing genetic mutations. (Note: the illustration that appeared in the chapter was an earlier version of this figure.)
A clear understanding of molecular biology techniques in general, and of the MutaMouse assay in particular was necessary to create the figure. Additional consultation with the chapter author was required to ensure that the mouse organs and test plate outcomes were accurately depicted.
